How Does Honda Adaptive Cruise Control Work?

How Does Honda Adaptive Cruise Control Work?

Since its founding, Honda had worked to increase the safety and simplicity of its vehicles and to make driving easier, more enjoyable, and more convenient. To this end, Honda has introduced Adaptive Cruise Control (ACC) in some of its new cars.As with any new technology, you may be asking, "How does this work, and how will it make driving better?"Here, we'll do our best to answer those questions by walking you through how ACC works. What Exactly is Adaptive Cruise Control?ACC is a new technological system that is being implemented in some of Honda's 2016 models, such at the Civic, Accord, and Pilot. In a nutshell, ACC scans the traffic ahead of you, and automatically adjusts your speed to match that of the car in front of you when your cruise control is turned on. This allows you to avoid the irritating necessity of having to continually apply the brakes or adjust your speed using the steering wheel mounted controls when you catch up to a slower moving vehicle. With ACC, the car itself now takes care of these adjustments automatically. In addition, ACC allows you to adjust the desired following interval between you and the car ahead of you. You simply choose between an extra long, long, medium, and short interval, and the option you choose determines when the ACC will begin automatically adapting your speed to match the car in front of you, based on the distance between your car and the forward vehicle. How to Activate Adaptive Cruise ControlUsing ACC is nearly as simple as using the traditional cruise control but with one additional step.As with regular cruise control, to use Honda's ACC system you first set your cruise control to "on" and then set the cruise control for the desired speed. This activates the traditional cruise control function. To activate the ACC system requires one additional step: setting the following interval to the desired distance, opting for extra long, long, medium, or short. The ACC feature is now activated and will begin monitoring the speed of forward traffic and automatically adjusting you speed to match the speed of the car in front of you.To do this, the ACC system uses a radar camera mounted on the rearview mirror and a sensor in the front bumper to constantly scan forward traffic and make any necessary adjustments to your speed, relieving you of doing so manually. How Will Adaptive Cruise Control Make My Life Better?Honda's new Adaptive Cruise Control will improve the quality of your driving experience by relieving you of the constant need to adjust your cruise control when catching up to cars ahead of you. It takes care of this for you, giving you one less thing to worry about so you can simply enjoy the ride.
