2027 Honda Passport: More Capability Without Giving Up Everyday Comfort

The Honda Passport has always landed in a nice spot for drivers who want more room and capability than a compact SUV without jumping all the way into a three-row family hauler. For 2027, it leans harder into the rugged side of its personality, particularly with the TrailSport models. And no, that doesn’t mean Honda turned it into an uncomfortable off-road toy.

The 2027 Passport still uses a 3.5-liter V6 producing 280 horsepower, paired with a 10-speed automatic transmission and Honda’s i-VTM4 all-wheel-drive system. Even the base RTL gets that combination, so you don’t have to move into one of the TrailSport trims just to get a strong drivetrain.

TrailSport Is Where Things Get Interesting

Move up to the Passport TrailSport and Honda starts adding equipment that can actually make a difference once the pavement gets rough. There’s an off-road-tuned suspension, all-terrain tires, skid plates, recovery hooks, and additional ground clearance. TrailWatch also gives you camera views around the vehicle, which can be handy on a trail but is probably going to get just as much use navigating tight parking lots and awkward curbs.

Honda also includes an integrated Class III trailer hitch on TrailSport models. That makes the Passport a much easier starting point for someone pulling a small camper, utility trailer, or weekend toys. It looks the part, too. Amber lighting, chunky tires, and the TrailSport trim details give it a little more personality without going way overboard.

Still a Honda Inside

The nice thing is that the Passport hasn’t forgotten what most owners actually do with an SUV. There’s a 12.3-inch touchscreen, wireless Apple CarPlay, and Android Auto, Google built-in and a wireless phone charger. Heated front seats are included on the RTL, while TrailSport Elite adds features such as ventilated front seats, Bose premium audio, and rear door sunshades.

There’s also a good amount of useful cargo space behind the seats, including hidden storage bins. That sounds like a small thing until you’re trying to keep jumper cables, tie-downs, muddy shoes, and other gear from rolling around in the back.

Who Is the 2027 Passport For?

This model is probably more people than the rugged styling suggests. If your week involves commuting, school runs and errands but your weekends sometimes involve gravel roads, camping, towing, or getting well outside the city, the Passport makes a lot of sense. You get real capability without having to live with a truck-like SUV every day.
