2027 Honda CR-V: Which Trim Is Right for You?

The Honda CR-V has become one of those vehicles that fits a lot of different lives. It works as a commuter, a small family SUV, a road-trip vehicle, or just something with a little more room than a sedan. For 2027, there are quite a few ways to build one, and the biggest decision is whether you want the turbocharged gas engine or one of the hybrid models. Honda offers LX, EX, and EX-L gas trims, plus Sport Hybrid, TrailSport Hybrid, Sport-L Hybrid, and Sport Touring Hybrid versions.
Start With the Gas Models
The LX is the straightforward entry point. It uses Honda’s turbocharged 1.5-liter engine and can be ordered with front-wheel drive or all-wheel drive.
Move up to the EX, and you start getting more comfort and convenience equipment. The EX-L takes that a step further if you want a more upscale cabin without moving into a hybrid.
For somebody who likes the CR-V but doesn’t necessarily need hybrid fuel economy, these versions still make plenty of sense.
The Sport Hybrid Is the Sweet Spot for a Lot of Drivers
The hybrid side starts with the Sport Hybrid. Front-wheel-drive versions carry an EPA rating of 40 mpg combined, while AWD models are rated at 37 mpg combined. That’s a pretty meaningful difference if your week involves a lot of commuting.
The Sport Hybrid also gives the CR-V a slightly more athletic personality than the basic gas models. If you want more features, the Sport-L Hybrid adds another layer of comfort, while the Sport Touring Hybrid sits at the top of the lineup with AWD standard.
Then There’s the TrailSport Hybrid
This is probably the most interesting CR-V in the lineup. The TrailSport Hybrid comes standard with AWD and is aimed at drivers who spend a little more time on dirt roads, at trailheads, or hauling outdoor gear around. It gives the CR-V a more rugged look without turning it into something that feels excessive for normal driving. That makes it a good fit for someone who wants a practical everyday SUV but would rather have a little extra capability built in.
Which One Fits You?
It really comes down to how you use your vehicle. For straightforward everyday driving, the LX or EX could be all you need. The Sport Hybrid makes a lot of sense for commuters, while the TrailSport Hybrid adds a more adventurous side. If comfort and features are higher on your list, the EX-L, Sport-L Hybrid, and Sport Touring Hybrid are worth a closer look.
